This beautiful antique two volume set of Short Studies on Great Subjects by James Anthony Froude was published by Longmans, Green, Reader and Dyer in 1872 - so the books are from the mid Victorian era.
The books are uniformly bound in half Morocco with brown cloth boards. The text block edges are beautifully marbled. The spine features five raised bands and intricate gilt tooling. The bindings are more contemporary than the text block inside - someone must have had them rebound for their collection/library.
The books are in near fine condition with very minor scuffing and soiling to the boards. The top edges of the text block are dulled. There is very light wear and chipping to the surface of the leather of the raised bands.
Inside, the endpapers are marbled to match the text block edges and there are no inscriptions. The pages show light age toning and scattered foxing.
Dimensions of each book approximately 17.8cm x 13cm x 3.8cm.
Every book purchased will be hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
