This beautiful edition of Memoirs of the Court of Elizabeth Queen of England by Lucy Aikin was published by Ward, Lock and Co. The book itself is undated but I'd estimate it to be late Victorian (circa 1890's).
The book is bound in half vellum with marbled paper boards and marbled text block edges. It's in good condition but there is heavy soiling to the vellum - the spine is darkened. There is some loss to the edges of the marbled paper covering the boards, and the top edge of the text block is dulled.
Inside, there are marbled endpapers and slight cracking to the hinges. Despite this, the pages remain tightly bound. There is a penned name on the verso of the FFEP. The pages show age toning throughout with occasional foxing.
Dimensions approximately 18.8cm x 12.8cm x 3cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
