This beautiful, antique hardback edition of Heber's Hymns was published by Sampson Low, Son and Marston in 1870. The book is bound in maroon cloth with stunning gilt decoration in a floral pattern to the front board and gilt lettering to the spine. The boards are bevelled and the text block edges are gilt.
It's in good condition for it's age, but there is wear to the corners which has caused splitting and fraying to the cloth. There is fading to the spine and board edges, and the boards are marked. The board edges show bumping and rubbing. Crushing to the spine ends has caused some splitting and minor loss to the cloth.
Inside, there is a written inscription to the front pastedown which has left an impression to the FFEP. The pages show age toning and sporadic foxing throughout, with occasional marking. There is superficial cracking to the gutter in places but the pages remain tightly bound.
The book features stunning black and white illustrations throughout, which make this an even more lovely book.
Dimensions approximately 20.3cm x 16.5cm x 2.2cm.
All books purchased will be hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
