This beautiful edition of The Young Englishwoman is A Volume of Pure Literature, New Fashions and Pretty Needlework Designs and was published by Ward, Lock and Co in 1868. So the book is mid Victorian. It's bound in brown cloth with a cloth title label to the spine. Text block edges tinted red.
It's in good condition, but there is crushing and wear to the corners which has caused splitting in the cloth. The boards show marking and soiling and there is a small hole in the cloth to the bottom of the back board. The spine is also marked, whilst crushing to the spine ends has caused splitting in the cloth.
Inside, the front hinge is slightly cracked but the pages remain tight to the binding. There is age toning and scattered foxing throughout, and a penned name on the front free endpaper.
There are stunning illustrations and needlework designs which really add to the charm of this antique book. The colour fashion plates are particularly striking and provide a wonderful insight into the Victorian era.

The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
