This wonderful 20th edition of Black's Picturesque Guide to the Lakes was a popular Victorian Guide Book to the Lake District. It features black and white illustrations by the well known landscape illustrator Birket Foster. It was published in 1885 by Adam and Charles Black and is bound in original forest green cloth with gilt detail to the front and spine.
***Please note that the fold out map is missing***
It's in very good condition, with air bubbling to the cloth covering the front board. The corners are lightly worn and bumped and there is rubbing to the spine ends. There is darkening to the spine and crushing to the spine ends.
Inside, the pages are clean and bright with sporadic foxing and there is creasing to the bottom corners where the text block was bumped. There are pencilled initials to the front pastedown and occasional cracks to the gutter but the pages remain tightly bound.
Dimensions approximately 17cm x 12cm x 2.9cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
