This stunning edition of The Imitation of Christ was published by Henry Frowde and features a binding by Hatchard's of Piccadilly (stamped by them inside). The mauchline ware boards feature a beautiful green and gilt transfer that's very striking. The spine is leather and all edges are gilt. The book is undated but these bindings were most popular in the late Victorian era.
The book is in very good condition but there is some loss to the leather at the head of the spine and the mauchline ware boards show some scuffs and scratches. There is also wear and chipping to the board edges and the top edge of the text block is dulled.
Inside, the endpapers are watered silk (also known as moiré silk) but there is slight cracking to the front hinge. The pages show age toning throughout and there are occasional cracks to the gutter. Other than the title page being loose at the top where it's torn from the previous page, the rest of the pages remain tightly bound. There is creasing to the preliminary page where the bottom corners have been folded inwards.

The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
