This beautiful antique edition of The Boys' and Girls' Book of Science was published by Strahan and Company Limited. The book itself is undated but there is a presentation plate inside dated 1888. So the book is from the latter part of the Victorian era.
The bound is bound in red cloth with pretty decoration to the front board and spine. All edges gilt. It's an attractive binding and in very good condition. There is light marking and soiling to the cloth, whilst the corners show some wear and minor fraying to the cloth. The spine is faintly sunned and crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, the pages are clean and bright but do show sporadic foxing. There is a presentation plate glued to the front pastedown and the tissue guard for the frontispiece is loose and creased. There are some lovely black and white illustrations through the book.
Dimensions approximately 20.7cm x 14.7cm x 3.2cm.
The book will arrive securely wrapped in bubble wrap, patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
