This stunning edition of The Psalter or The Psalms of David was published by Samuel Bagster and Sons. It is undated but after some research, I'd estimate it to be mid Victorian with a contemporary binding. It's bound in full Morocco with elaborate gilt decoration blind stamped to the boards and spine. All edges gilt and the spine features five raised bands.
It's in very good condition but wear to the corners, board edges and spine edges has caused minor loss to the surface of the leather. The boards show scuffing and there is wear to the spine ends.
Inside, the FFEP has been incorrectly bound and and features two contemporary leaves between it and the front pastedown. There are gilt inner dentelles and a name plate glued to the front pastedown. There are several names penned over the top of one another (see photo) and stamped initials. The pages are clean and bright with light age toning and sporadic foxing.
Dimensions approximately 14.9cm x 10cm x 1.8cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
