This beautiful antique edition of Piccalilli An Illustrated Mixture by Gilbert Percy was published by Sampson, Low, Marston, Searle and Rivington in 1862. It's bound in original blue cloth with blind stamped decoration in gilt to the front and gilt lettering to the spine. All edges gilt. The book illustrates the curious and cruel nature of the human species through a series of fables.
The book is in good condition but there is wear and crushing to the corners. The board edges are lightly bumped and there is light marking and rubbing to the boards. There are the remnants of a paper label to the spine and adjacent joints. The spine is sunned with dulling to the gilt. Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there is discolouration to the free endpapers but no inscriptions or writings of any kind. The pages show age toning throughout with occasional minor marking and and signs of handling (creasing). The book has a handful of black and white illustrations within the text. Dimensions approximately 18.9cm x 14.4cm x 1.1cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string. The bubble wrap I use is 100% biodegradable and the jiffy bags are recyclable.
Where possible, I use 100% recyclable paper tape, but sometimes I have to use clear plastic tape for extra strength.
