This stunning antique edition of Common Wayside Flowers by Thomas Miller was published by Routledge, Warne and Routledge in 1860. It's a scarce and sought after binding, and one of the most beautiful books that I've sold! The book is bound in the publisher's original brown cloth over bevelled boards. There is ornate gilt decoration and pasted on illustrations. The book is in good condition but there is wear and crushing to the corners which has caused minor splitting in the cloth. The board edges also show light wear and bumping. The spine is sunned with dulling and rubbing to the gilt; crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there is a name and date written in pen on the front free endpaper. The pages show scattered foxing throughout, and some of the pages show more age toning than others. The book has had some restoration work and loose pages have been reattached. A few pages which were detached show wear and tear to the edges and still stick out slightly from the edge of the text block (page 89 has a slightly larger one inch tear to the edge). Some of the top corners have been dog eared by a previous reader which has left creasing behind.
This work was written by Thomas Miller and provides a beautiful visual guide to wayside flowers. There are stunning colour vignettes throughout by Birket Foster.
Dimensions approximately 23cm x 18.5cm x 3cm.
The book will be gift wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
I try to use eco friendly packaging wherever possible. This includes 100% recycled jiffy bags, biodegradable bubble wrap, and paper offcuts from the newspaper industry.
