This wonderful edition of The Greenhouse, Hot House and Stove by Charles McIntosh was published by William S Orr and Co in 1838. So the book is from the early Victorian era. It's bound in original olive green cloth with blind stamped decoration and gilt to the boards and spine. All edges gilt.
It's in very good condition but the wear and crushing to the corners has caused minor splitting in the cloth. There is bumping to the board edges and the spine is sunned and dulled. Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting and chipping to the cloth.
Inside, the pages show light age toning and sporadic foxing. There is slight cracking to the front hinge and a penned inscription to the verso of the frontispiece. There are 17 hand coloured plates and a hand coloured vignette on the title page.
Dimensions of each volume approximately 18.1cm x 12.5cm x 3.1cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
