This 1863 edition of Lays of the Scottish Cavaliers and Other Poems by William Edmondstoune Aytoun was published by William Blackwood and Sons. The book is bound in red cloth over bevelled boards with ornate gilt decoration blind stamped to the boards and spine. The text block edges are all gilt.
The book is in good condition but wear to the corners has caused splitting in the cloth at the bottom corners. There is light marking to the boards and the gilt on the front and spine is dulled and rubbed. There is wear to the spine edges and spine ends that has caused some splitting in the cloth. Largest split is to the top of the front joint (approx 4cm).
Inside, there is slight cracking to the front hinge and occasionally to the gutter. There is a penned inscription opposite the half title page. The pages are clean and bright with scattered foxing.
The book is filled with beautiful black and white illustrations.
Dimensions approximately 25.4cm x 20cm x 3.8cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string. The bubble wrap I use is 100% biodegradable and the jiffy bags are recyclable.
Where possible, I use 100% recyclable paper tape, but sometimes I have to use clear plastic tape for extra strength.
