This beautiful First Edition of A Commonplace Book of Thoughts, Memories and Fancies by Mrs Jameson was published by Longman, Brown, Green and Longmans in 1854. It's bound in full calf with blind stamped gilt to the boards. All edges gilt. It has undergone some restoration work and has been rebacked with a new leather spine. This has been done in a very complimentary way to the original binding. Marbled endpapers and gilt inner dentelles.
This first edition of A Commonplaces Book of Thoughts, Memories and Fancies was written by Mrs Jameson, a prominent Anglo-Irish art historian, author, and feminist. Part 1 of the book covers Ethics and Character whilst Part 2 covers Literature and the Arts.
The book is in very good condition with wear and scuffing to the leather, which has caused loss to the surface of the leather. There is also scuffing to the gilt text block edges.
Inside, the pages show light age toning and occasional foxing. There are illustrations and etched decorations.
Dimensions of the book are approximately 20.5cm x 14cm x 3.7cm.

I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
