This beautiful full Morocco edition of The Poetical Works of Longfellow was published by Bickers and Bush in 1856. So the book is from the early Victorian era. It's bound in full Morocco leather with embossed detail to the boards and spine; the spine features four raised bands. The edges are all gilt with Gauffered decoration - Gauffering describes the act of applying a patterned decoration to the text block edges of a book.
It's in very good condition but there is rubbing and chipping to the surface of the leather - at the spine, board edges and corners. There is a dark mark and slightly larger chip to the leather covering the back board. There is light soiling to the gilt page edges and dulling to the top edge.
Inside, the pages show age toning throughout with sporadic foxing and minor marking. Some of the pages show creasing. There are some small black and white illustrations within the text. One page segment sticks out slightly from the edge of the text block but it isn't loose. It's tightly bound - I'm not quite sure why it's sticking out!

The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
