This beautiful late Victorian edition of About Orchids A Chat by Frederick Boyle was published by Chapman and Hall in 1893. It's bound in original burgundy cloth with gilt decoration and lettering to the front and gilt lettering to the spine.
It's in good condition but the book shows a forward lean and there is light wear and crushing to the corners. The boards show light marking and discolouration, and there is faint water damage to the cloth. A small dent to the spine has caused a small tear and crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth. The spine is slightly darkened and dulled.
Inside, the old water staining can be seen to the bottom of the preliminary and end pages and the endpapers are tanned. There is slight cracking to the hinges. The rest of the pages are clean and bright with light age toning. The book features 8 chromolithograph plates - collated and complete. The book measures approximately 21.7cm x 15cm x 2.5cm.
All books purchased will be hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I'm gradually switching over to eco-friendly packaging, including 100% recyclable jiffy bags :)
