This beautiful antique edition of The Book of Common Prayer was published in 1844 and features original Morocco binding. All edges are gilt and gauffered which is a wonderful feature in old books - Gauffering describes the act of applying a patterned decoration to the text block edges of a book. The book has a brass clasp.
The book is in remarkably good condition but the brass edging is coming away slightly from the top edge of the front board. There is a chip to the leather near the top edge and the brass is a bit tarnished. The gilt on the front and spine is dulled and rubbed, but still bright on the back. There is some soiling/tarnishing to the gilt edges.
Inside, the pages show light age toning and occasional foxing. There is a name written opposite the title page.
Dimensions approximately 11.3cm x 8cm x 4.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
