This beautiful early Victorian edition of Truths by Great Authors was published by William White in 1852. It is described as a Dictionary of nearly 4000 aids to reflections - quotes, metaphors, cautions and proverbs. The book is bound in full Morocco leather with beautiful blind stamped detail to the boards. There are five raised bands to the spine and the text block edges are all gilt and feature beautiful gauffered detailing. Gauffering describes the act of applying a patterned decoration to the text block edges of a book.
It's in very good condition, with just some wear and darkening to the external joints. The spine is a little sunned and there is minor marking and wear to the leather in places. The top edge of the text block is a bit dulled.
Inside, there are gilt inner dentelles and there are two name plates - one is glued to the front pastedown and another is glued to the front free endpaper. There is also a stamped name address to the top corner of the FFEP. The pages show age toning and sporadic foxing but the text is clear and bright.

The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
