This lovely antique edition of The Little English Flora or a Botanical and Popular Account of All Our Field Flowers with numerous woodcuts and engravings on steel of every species was put together by G.W.Francis and published by Simpkin Marshall and Co Stationers in 1853. So the book is from the earlier part of the Victorian era.
It's in good condition but there is wear and crushing to the corners, as well as wear to the board edges. The boards have some marks and stains, whilst the spine is sunned. There is rubbing to the spine edges and crushing to the spine ends which has caused some splitting in the cloth.
Inside, the front free endpaper has been removed and the page opens onto the half title page. This also has an ownership plate with an amusing rhyme about the rules of borrowing. The pages show age toning throughout with scattered foxing, with some occasional small stains. There are cracks to the gutter in places and some of the pages stick out slightly from the edge of the text block but they remain tightly bound.
The book features a handful of black and white plates detailing different flowers.
Dimensions approximately 17.8cm x 11cm x 2.3cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
