This beautiful antique edition of Lorna Doone A Romance of Exmoor by RD Blackmore was published by Sampson Low, Marston and Company. The book is undated but there is a presentation plate dated 1920. The book is bound in full calf leather with gilt borders to the boards and a school insignia blind stamped in gilt to the front. The page edges are marbled but these are very faded. The spine features five raised bands, leather title label and stunning gilt decoration.
It's in very good condition, with light scuffing and marks to the boards. The marbled text block edges are faded and the spine is faintly sunned.
Inside, there is a presentation plate glued to the front pastedown. The pages show tanning throughout, with sporadic foxing. The book features beautiful black and white plates which add to the charm of this antique volume.
Book dimensions approximately 18.5cm x 12.7cm x 3.6cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough.
