This early Victorian edition of Flowers and their Poetry was published in 1851 by Wm S Orr and Co. It's bound in brown cloth which has a slight pinkish tinge and there is intricate gold gilt decoration blind stamped into the front board and spine. It's an edition I've never seen before and is still a beauty, despite the wear.
This collection of poetry is dedicated to the beauty of flowers, and was edited by the medical writer John Stevenson Bushnan. It's a very rare copy.
As can be seen from the photos, there is black ink spots staining the front board (there are also a couple of spots to the back board). The cloth shows discolouration and light soiling, and the corners are lightly worn. The spine is sunned and there is crushing to the spine ends which has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there is a written inscription on the front free endpaper and the pages show light age toning and sporadic marking/foxing. The preliminary pages feel a bit loose but are still attached. Sadly there are some small holes and loss to the bottom of the illustrated title page and a tear to the bottom of the next title page. There are cracks to the gutter in places but no loose pages.
Every page of text features a delicate floral border in pale pink, blue and green. It's a really pretty book to read and enjoy.

The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
