This beautiful edition of The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club by Charles Dickens is VOLUME TWO only in what what have originally been a two volume set. It was published in 1839 by A and W Galignani and Co.
The book has had some restoration work as when it arrived with me it had no spine. So it has been given a new spine with blind tooled title labels. The boards are original. This means the book can be read and enjoyed for many years to come.
There is significant wear to the boards, with some loss to the surface of the leather corners (particularly to the bottom corner of the front board). There is wear and peeling to the paper at the board edges, as well as wear and rubbing to the paper boards.
Inside, the hinges have been reinforced with tape and there are some written names to the front pastedown. The front free endpaper and half title page have been removed. The pages show significant foxing, age toning and age related staining. There is a tear to page 17 approximately 6cm long from the top edge. There are also some chips to the edges of the pages. There is loss to the bottom corner of Page 51.
Dimensions approximately 22cm x 14.5cm x 2.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
