This stunning and scarce edition of The Ages of Female Beauty: Illustrated in a Series of Engravings from Drawings by the Most Eminent Artists was edited by Frederic Montagu and published by Charles Tilt in 1838.
This lovely early Victorian book is bound in original publisher's green cloth, stamped in gilt and blind to the boards and spine. All edges gilt. It's in very good condition with sunning and discolouration to the spine. Crushing to the spine ends has caused splitting in the cloth. There is minor marking to the boards and a little wear /loss to the gilt in places.
Inside, brush strokes and marking can be seen to the endpapers. The pages show age toning throughout, with sporadic foxing and age staining. There is an additional engraved title page and nine engraved plates, each with it's own tissue guards.
Dimensions approximately 28.3cm x 21.9cm x 1.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
