This stunning edition of The Drawing Room Table Book was published by George Virtue. The book itself is undated but there is a penned inscription inside dated 1851. So the book is early Victorian.
It's in good condition but it's definitely showing it's age. It's bound in blue cloth with beautiful gilt decoration to the front and spine. There is wear and bumping to the corners, with loss to the cloth, revealing the board beneath. Wear to the board edges has caused some splitting in the cloth. There is marking and discolouration to the boards and the spine is lightly sunned. Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth and there is also splitting to the top and bottom of the joints. Some page segments are a little loose and stick out from the edge of the text block.
Inside, there is cracking to the hinges and to the gutter in places. There are no detached pages. The pages show heavy age toning and foxing throughout, with staining to the top of the pages. The book is filled with poetry and stunning black and white illustrations.
Dimensions approximately 28cm x 19.7cm x 1.9cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
