This wonderful four volume set of the Poetry of William Wordsworth was published in 1832 Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown, Green and Longman. So the books are from the very end of the Georgian era. They're full bound in calf leather with three raised bands to the spines and delicate gold gilt work. The text block edges are marbled but quite faded, especially the top edges.
They're in good condition for their age but the boards show significant scuffing, marking and discolouration. The board edges are rubbed and lightly chipped, and there is wear to the corners, with splitting to the leather to reveal the board beneath. The spines are rubbed and worn, with faint cracking to the leather. Some of the title labels have cracked and glued back on (one has been attached crookedly).
Inside, the endpapers are beautifully marbled to compliment the text block edges. The pages show age toning and sporadic foxing. There are two names on the title pages and another inscription on a title page. Volume One has both a name and date on one of the preliminary blank pages and an inscription on the title page.
Each volume measures approximately 15cm x 10cm.
The books will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
