This very scarce edition of A Mother's Portrait Sketched Soon After Her Decease For the Study of Her Children was written anonymously by the surviving parent. It's a Second Edition, published two years after the first. At the time of listing, I can find only one other edition for sale online.
The book was written as a "sketch" or portrait of an ideal Christian mother's character, life, and faith. It was written to help a grieving family remember their mother's virtues and to guide the children's upbringing after her death. There is a moving dedication to the Mother's close friend Mrs F... S... who helped nurse the Mother through her long illness.
It's bound in half leather with marbled paper boards. It's in good condition but there is wear and loss to the leather at the corners and to the front joint which is slightly split near the bottom (still securely held though). There is marking and scuffing to the boards and peeling to the paper at the board edges.
Inside, the pages show age toning throughout sporadic foxing. The frontispiece has offset to the title page.
This little book measures just 17.6cm x 10.7cm x 1.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon. The bubble wrap I use is 100% biodegradable and the jiffy bags are recyclable.
Where possible, I use 100% recyclable paper tape, but sometimes I have to use clear plastic tape for extra
