This beautiful antiquarian book is An English Dictionary Explaining the Difficult Terms that are used in Divinity, Husbandry, Physick, Philosophy, Law, Navigation, Mathematics and other Arts and Sciences. It contains "many thousands of hard words". It was published in 1714 by F Collins so the book is from the very start of the Edwardian era. It's bound in contemporary quarter leather with brown cloth boards and gilt detail to the spine.
***One page has been ripped out between MAN and MAR***
Externally, the book is in very good condition with minor marking to the title label on the spine and rubbing to the spine ends. There is also minor marking to the text block edges.
Inside the book has new endpapers and the title page has been backed onto paper (it was torn and fragile. There is some wear, tear and loss to the edges of the page opposite the title page. There is some "bookworm" damage to the paper (from the preface page to AUT in the dictionary). The pages show heavy age toning throughout with occasional minor marks.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string. The bubble wrap I use is 100% biodegradable and the jiffy bags are recyclable.
Where possible, I use 100% recyclable paper tape, but sometimes I have to use clear plastic tape for extra strength.
