This incredible book titled Wyatt's Sermons holds a secret - it's been turned into a book safe. And not recently - it's quite an old transformation, made from an early 19th Century book. The book is full leather but has undergone some restoration in the form of a spine reback (a new leather spine has been attached and the original spine has been glued over the top).
It's wonderful to think what secrets this book may have held for people over the years - or was it used to hold treasured items?
It shows the wear you'd expect from a book this age - the leather is scuffed, with some loss to the surface around the edges and corners. There is also some loss to the spine ends of the original spine. Inside, the front hinge has been reinforced with tape and the safe part of the book is lined with the original marbled endpaper.
Dimensions approximately 21.4cm x 14cm x 3.3cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
