This old edition of The Poetical Works and Life of Lord Byron was published by Charles Daly. The book is undated but I'd estimate it to be from the mid Victorian era (circa1870). It's bound in red cloth with striking gilt decoration to the front board and spine. All edges gilt.
It's in very good condition but the cloth does show some light marking and soiling. The corners are worn, with very slight splitting to the cloth at the bottom corners. The spine is sunned whilst crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth. The top edge of the text block is dulled.
Inside, there are two tape residue marks to the front pastedown, as well as a bookseller's sticker and some pencilled numbers. There is a name written on the front free endpaper and some penned letters. There is age toning to the pages and sporadic foxing, but the pages are remarkably clean and bright.
There are a collection of black and white plates, each with it's own tissue guard.
Dimensions approximately 16.7cm x 11.3cm x 3.7cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
