This stunning antique edition of Songs and Verses and The True Cross by G J Whyte Melville was published by Ward Lock and Co. The book itself is undated but there is an inscription dated 1920 - I'd estimate the book to be a bit earlier than that however (circa 1910). The book is bound in half leather with green cloth boards. The spine features intricate gilt decoration in an art nouveau style. The top edge is gilt.
The book is in very good condition with only light rubbing to the corners and minor foxing to the text block edges. The spine is faintly sunned, with minor rubbing and chipping to the leather. There is minor splitting in the leather at the head of the spine.
Inside, the endpapers are marbled but do show significant tanning and foxing. There is a written inscription on the verso of the frontispiece - a really beautiful one to someone as a wedding present. The rest of the pages show light age toning and sporadic foxing.
Dimensions approximately 18.4cm x 13cm x 3.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string. The bubble wrap I use is either oxo-degradable (pale green in colour) or upcycled from deliveries I've had (this is clear and fully recyclable). The jiffy bags are recyclable.
Where possible, I use 100% recyclable paper tape, but sometimes I have to use clear plastic tape for extra strength.
