This beautiful edition of The Poetical Works of Alfred Lord Tennyson was published by Henry Frowde in 1910. So the book is from the end of the Edwardian era.
The book is bound in full calf leather with five raised bands to the spine and gilt decoration. The text block edges are marbled and there is a blind stamped school insignia in gilt to the front board.
It's in good condition but there is fading and marking to the spine, with wear to the leather which has caused loss to the surface of the leather in places. The boards show some scuffing and there is a chip in the leather of the back board, near the bottom left corner. There is a slight split starting to the bottom of the front joint but the board feels securely attached. The corners and board edges show light wear.
Inside, the endpapers are marbled to match the edge of the text block and there is a presentation plate glued to the front pastedown. The pages show light age toning and very occasional foxing but are otherwise in very good, antique condition.
Dimensions approximately 18.5cm x 13.8cm x 4.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
