This beautiful edition of Ballads and Lyrics of Love includes Illustrations by Byam Shaw and was published by Chatto and Windus in 1908. So the book is from the latter part of the Edwardian era.
The book is bound in green cloth with gilt decoration of a cherub to the front board. It's in very good condition for its age, but there is discolouration to the boards, and a scuff mark to the front board. The board edges show shelf wear and there is bumping to the corners. The spine is sunned and marked, and there is also crushing to the spine ends which has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, the pages show light age toning and sporadic foxing but are remarkably clean and bright. The book features a collection of beautiful colour plates by Byam Shaw which add to the romantic feel of this book. There are some occasional cracks to the gutter in places but the pages remain tightly bound.
Dimensions approximately 24cm x 18cm x 2.7cm.
All books purchased will be hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
