This beautiful, antique edition of the Shelley's Poetical Works was published by Henry Frowde in 1909. So the book is from the late Edwardian era.
The book is quarter bound in cream vellum with delicate gilt decoration to the spine. The boards are bound in blue cloth.
It's in good condition but there is marking, discolouration and light staining to the boards. The corners show wear and crushing, with very minor fraying to the cloth at the bottom corners. The spine is slightly darkened which is a common issue of vellum books. There is some light wear to the leather title label and the boards are slightly bowed.
Inside, there is a newspaper clipping tucked inside and a written inscription on the front free endpaper. The pages show age toning throughout, as well as occasional foxing/marking in places (the foxing is most prominent to the preliminary pages and the last few pages). There is slight cracking to the back hinge.
Dimensions approximately 18.9cm x 13cm x 4cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
