This striking French book of Langage Des Fleurs was published in Paris in 1872. In English, it is The Language of Flowers, a popular way of sending messages to people in the 19th Century. Different flowers could be sent to represent different meanings.
It is bound in original red cloth with stunning gilt decoration to the front and lettering to the spine. It's in very good condition with light wear and crushing to the corners. The book has a slight forward lean and there is minor chipping to the surface colour of the cloth. The spine is lightly sunned.
Inside, there is cracking to the hinges but the pages remain tight to the binding. The pages show foxing throughout, with age toning around the edges of the paper.
The book has eight beautiful colour plates. Dimensions approximately 17.8cm x 12.1cm x 2.1cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string. The bubble wrap I use is 100% biodegradable and the jiffy bags are recyclable.
Where possible, I use 100% recyclable paper tape, but sometimes I have to use clear plastic tape for extra
