This beautiful edition of Departmental Ditties and Other Verse by Rudyard Kipling was published by W Thacker and Co in 1897. So the book is from the latter part of the Victorian era but the binding is more contemporary.
The book is bound in half calf, with marbled text block edges and five raised bands to the spine. The spine also features beautiful gilt tooling. It's in very good condition, with faint fading to the spine and wear to the corners. The boards show some minor marks and scuffs, and there are two small chips to the leather of the front board.
Inside, the endpapers are marbled and there are no inscriptions. The pages show light age toning and occasional marking but are otherwise clear and bright.
Dimensions approximately 18.5cm x 13cm x 2.8cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
