This stunning antique edition of The Shipwreck A Poem by William Falconer was published by Adam and Charles Black in 1858.
The book is bound in blue cloth with ornate gold gilt decoration to the boards and spine. This fine binding is a really beautiful example of an early Victorian book.
It's in very good condition considering the book is over 165 years old and the book comes with a clear plastic cover. The corners have some wear and light bumping, and there is light marking and rubbing to the boards. Crushing to the spine ends has caused splitting in the cloth - the head of the spine has been repaired with glue.
Inside, there are some names written in pencil to the front free endpaper and the pages show toning and foxing throughout. There are some superficial cracks to the gutter in places but the pages remain tightly bound.
The book features beautiful black and white illustrations throughout. The edge of the text block is gold gilt (this has some scuffs and light soiling).
Dimensions approximately 20.5cm x 15.5cm x 2.5cm.
