This beautiful and very scarce edition of The Mystic Rose From The Garden of the King by Fairfax Cartwright was published by H S Nichols. It's not dated but from my own research, it appears to have been published in the late Victorian era (circa 1898).
What's particularly interesting with this edition is that many of the pages are uncut - which means no one has read it during it's 100+ years of life.
The book is bound in cream cloth with ornate gilt decoration to the front board and spine.
It contains a philosophical and mystical work by Fairfax Cartwright and was purported to be a based on the fragment of a vision by Sheikh Haji Ibrahim of Kerbela.
It's in near fine condition, with only minor marking to the boards. The spine is very slightly sunned, with soiling near the tail of the spine, and the spine ends are crushed.
Inside, the endpapers are tanned but the rest of the pages show much lighter age toning. There is occasional foxing to the paper.
Dimensions approximately 23.2cm x 15.3cm x 2.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
