This sought after and beautiful complete collection of The Works of the Bronte Sisters was published by Allan Wingate in 1949. It is known as the Heather Edition and is much sought after by Bronte collectors due to it's unusual purple colouring (I have a set in my personal collection!).
The books are uniformly bound in pale purple/lilac cloth, with title labels and blind stamped detail in gilt to the spines.
They are in good condition for their age, with the most noticeable flaw being the fading to the spines. Sadly this is a common trait with these purple books, and it's rare to find them unfaded. The spines also show some foxing and faint marking, and there is dulling to the gilt. The spine ends are crushed. The boards are clean and bright with only minor marks, but there is some bumping to the board edges in places (the most noticeable bump is to the bottom edge of Villette's front board) and the books show a slight forward lean. There is light soiling and foxing to the text block edges.
Inside, the pages are in good condition but do show age toning throughout. There are no inscriptions or dedications but the pages do show some sporadic foxing and minor marking - the endpapers are more noticeably foxed.
Each volume measures approximately 19cm x 13.5cm.
The books will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
