This stunning early edition of Lion of St Mark (A Tale of 14th Century Venice) by GA Henty was published by Mershon Company. The book is undated but after some research, I found an equivalent edition with an inscription dated 1900. So the book is possibly late Victorian.
The book features pictorial decoration to the front board and spine and is an attractive edition for the bookcase. It's in good condition, but the corners are worn and crushed and there is noticeable soiling and marking to the boards (the back board is also stained). There is faint rubbing to the decoration on the front board, and the spine is darkened and tanned.
Inside, there is a presentation plate glued to the front pastedown and a stamped name and town to the front free endpaper. On one of the preliminary blank pages there is also a name pencilled quite beautifully and ornately! Sadly there is a small tear to the bottom edge of the title page and the pages show significant tanning throughout.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
