This beautiful antique edition ofA Short History of English Literature by George Saintsbury was published by MacMillan and Co in 1911.
The book is bound in half calf leather with five raised bands and gilt tooling in the shape of a thistle to the spine. It features marbled text block edges and there is a school insignia blind stamped in gilt to the front board. The book is in good condition for it's age, but there is some loss to the surface of the leather in places. The corners are worn and there is slight air bubbling to the cloth of the back boars. The spine is faded, with some chips and scuffs to the leather.
Inside, the book there is a presentation plate glued to the front pastedown and the endpapers are beautifully marbled to compliment the text block edges. The pages show age toning and occasional foxing - the foxing is most noticeable to the first few pages and the last few pages. The text is clear and bright.
Dimensions approximately 18.5cm x 13cm x 4.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
