This striking edition of A Child's Garden of Verse by Robert Louis Stevenson was published by The Bodley Head in 1901. So the book is from the very end of the Victorian era. It is the sixth edition of this classic work by the author of Treasure Island.
The book is bound in deep green cloth with stunning decoration blind stamped in gold gilt to the front board and spine. It's in good condition for it's age, but there is some wear and bumping to the corners and the boards show some marking and light soiling. The spine is faintly sunned and there is crushing to the spine ends.
Inside, the show age toning and foxing throughout, with sporadic marking and finger marks. There are some superficial cracks to the gutter but the pages remain tightly bound.
There are beautiful black and white illustrations by Charles Robinson, best known for illustrating The Secret Garden.
Book Dimensions approximately 19cm x 13cm x 1.8cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
