This antique edition of Emma by Jane Austen was published by London Macmillan and Co in 1909. So the book is from the late Edwardian era. It's bound in original red cloth with gilt decoration to the front board and spine.
The book is in good condition but it is showing it's age so there are condition points to be aware of. The cloth shows some marks and the book shows a forward lean. The corners are crushed and there is some minor marking to the text block edges. There is sunning and marking to the spine, including a black ink mark near the head of the spine. The gilt on the spine is almost completely rubbed away, and rubbing to the spine edges has caused some splitting and fraying to the cloth covering the back hinge. Crushing to the spine ends has also caused splitting in the cloth and minor loss to the cloth at the head of the spine - someone has repaired the spine with glue in places.
Inside, the pages show light age toning and sporadic foxing. The tissue guard for the frontispiece is tanned and creased. There is a neatly written name and date in the top corner of the front free endpaper.
The book features beautiful black and white illustrations by Hugh Thomson, making this an extra special read. The top edge of the text block are gilt. Dimensions approximately 17.5cm x 11.5cm x 2cm
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
