This beautiful antique edition of Shakespeare's Heroines by Anna Jameson was published by George Bell and Sons in 1908. So the book is from the latter part of the Edwardian era. It's interesting to note that Shakespeare has been spelt Shakspeare which was a popular spelling in the past.
The book is bound in half calf leather with five raised bands and gilt tooling to the spine. It features marbled text block edges and there is a school insignia blind stamped in gilt to the front board. The book is in very good condition for it's age, with just light wear to the corners and scuffs to the leather. There is some very minor loss to the surface of the leather in places. The spine is faintly sunned and the top edge of the text block is slightly dulled.
Inside, the book there is a presentation plate glued to the front pastedown and the endpapers are beautifully marbled to compliment the text block edges. The pages show age toning and scattered foxing throughout. The text is clear and bright.
Dimensions approximately 17.7cm x 12cm x 3cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
