This beautiful vintage edition of Spenser for Children by M H Towry was published by Chatto and Windus in 1878. So the book is from the mid Victorian era. It's bound in green cloth over bevelled boards with decoration in black and gilt to the front board and spine. It was rebacked and resewn in 2001.
It's in good condition but the corners are worn through with the board revealed beneath the split cloth. The board edges show bumping and shelf wear, and there are some marks (including a water stain) to the back board. The spine shows some rubbing.
Inside, the hinges have been reinforced with cloth tape and the endpapers feature a beautiful floral pattern. The pages show age toning and scattered marking, including fingerprint marks, and there is also some age staining in place. Some of the pages have wear and tear to the edges - particularly the illustration plates (one of them has had the edge reinforced with clear tape).
The book features six colour plates by Walter J Morgan - they're really striking and bring the story to life. Dimensions approximately 25.3cm x 19.6cm x 2.7cm.
All books purchased will be hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I try to use eco friendly packaging wherever possible. This includes 100% recycled jiffy bags, biodegradable bubble wrap, and paper offcuts from the newspaper industry.
