This stunning late Victorian edition of Ballads and Songs by William Makepeace Thackeray was published by Cassell and Company Ltd in 1896. It's bound in burgundy cloth with ornate gilt decoration to the front board and spine - it has quite an art nouveau feel to the style.
The book is in very good condition for it's age, with just light wear to the corners and some very minor marks to the boards. The board edges show some light shelf wear and the spine is faded with a dark mark to the cloth underneath the title. There is crushing to the spine ends which has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, the pages show some foxing and minor marking but are otherwise clean and bright. There is a neatly written inscription to the front free endpaper. There is superficial cracking to the gutter in places but otherwise the pages remain tightly bound.
The book has eight black and white plates.
Dimensions approximately 19cm x 13cm x 3.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
