This stunning and rare antique edition of Jacob Faithful by Captain Marryat features the beautiful AA Turbayne Binding. This extraordinary art nouveau design in gilt includes Turbayne's signature - a small AT initials above the shell on the front board.
It was published in 1895 by Macmillan and Co Ltd and features illustrations by Henry M Brock. The endpapers feature beautiful stylized peacocks. Albert Angus Turbayne created stunning book cover designs in the late 19th Century, towards the end of the Victorian era.
The book is bound in deep blue cloth elaborate gilt decoration to the front board and spine. The edges of the text block are all gilt.
It's in very good condition for it's age, with just light wear and crushing to the corners. The spine is lightly sunned and marked, with some minor rubbing to the gilt. The boards show minor marks and scuffs, with a couple of small air bubbles to the cloth covering the back board. Crushing to the spine ends has caused very slight splitting in the cloth.
Inside, the endpapers are age toned and there is a written inscription on the half title page. The pages are clean and bright with only light age toning. There is foxing to the title page, frontispiece and tissue guard.

The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
