This lovely little edition of Handbook of Housekeeping for Small Incomes by Florence Stacpoole was published by Walter Scott. This edition is undated but these bindings usually dated from around 1898. It is bound in green cloth with floral gilt detail to the spine. All edges gilt.
It features all sorts of thrifty advice to help housewives manage on a small household budget - from caring for children on a small budget to feeding an invalid.
It's in good condition but the book does show a forward lean and there is light marking to the boards. There is wear and crushing to the corners and this has caused some splitting in the cloth. The spine is darkened and a little dulled, whilst crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth. There are a couple of bumps to the fore-edge of the front board and two pages stick out slightly from the bottom of the text block.
Inside, there are no inscriptions and the pages show scattered foxing throughout, with occasional handling marks. Someone has written c1890 on the front free endpaper.
Dimensions approximately 19cm x 13.2cm x 3.2cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned paper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
