This lovely collection of three vintage Robert Gibbings books includes Sweet Cork of Thee, Coming Down the Wye and Over the Reefs. They're bound in colourful cloth with gilt detail blind stamped to the spines and fronts. All published by JM Dent in 1942, 1948 and 1951.
Robert Gibbings was an Irish artist and author, specialising in beautiful nature writing and travelogues. He was most noted for his work as a wood engraver and helped to revive wood engraved illustrations in the 20th Century.
They're in good condition, with some bumping to the board edges and corners and light sunning to the spines. The text block edges show some minor foxing and there is creasing to the back board of Sweet Cork of Thee.
Inside the pages are in very good condition with just light age toning and occasional foxing. One has a name written on the verso of the FFEP; another has an inscription on the verso of the frontispiece and the third has a written inscription on the FFEP.
There are beautiful woodcut illustrations by the author throughout. The books will arrive hand wrapped in bubble wrap, patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
