This stunning antique edition of The Social Life in Former Days (Chiefly in the Province of Moray) by E Dunbar Dunbar is Illustrated by Letters and Family Press and was published by Edmonston and Douglas in 1865.
The book is bound in half calf leather with brown cloth boards. The spine features five raised bands and pretty gilt tooling and the text block edges are marbled. It's in good condition but there is significant wear to the leather, with loss to the surface in places - particularly to the corners. The leather is split at the corners to reveal the board beneath. There is some splitting starting to the bottom of the joints but they're still attached. The boards have some minor marks and scuffs, and the spine is rubbed and slightly darkened. The top edge of the text block is darkened.
Inside, the endpapers are marbled to match the edge of the text block and there is an Ex Libris plate glued to the front pastedown. The pages are clean and bright, only showing light age toning and occasional foxing and minor marking. There are some indentations to Pages 1 - 11.
Dimensions approximately 21.6cm x 15cm x 3.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string. The bubble wrap I use is either oxo-degradable (pale green in colour) or upcycled from deliveries I've had (this is clear and fully recyclable). The jiffy bags are recyclable.
Where possible, I use 100% recyclable paper tape, but sometimes I have to use clear plastic tape for extra strength.
