This beautiful Edwardian two volume set features Tales of the Birds and More Tales of the Birds by W Warde Fowler. They were published by Macmillan in 1902 and 1903 respectively. So the books are from the early Edwardian era.
The books are uniformly bound in navy cloth with gold gilt decoration blind stamped into the front boards, and gold gilt lettering to the spines. They are in remarkably good condition considering they're 120 years old. Each volume shows a forward lean and there is wear and light crushing to the corners. The board edges are rubbed and lightly bumped, and there is minor marking to the boards. The spine edges show faint rubbing and the spine ends are crushed.
Inside, both books have a neatly written inscription on the front free endpaper and the endpapers are noticeably foxed. More Tales of the Birds shows significant foxing throughout, but Tales of the Birds shows only sporadic foxing and marking. There is light cracking to the gutter in places but the pages remain tightly bound.
Dimensions of each volume approximately 19.5cm x 13.5cm x 3cm.
The books will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
