This stunning book is volume one in what would have originally been a set of books. Flowers Plants Of Great Britain by Anne Pratt was published by The Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge. It is undated but there is a written inscription dated 1869. So the book is from the earlier half of the Victorian era.
It's finely bound in half Morocco, with marbled paper boards and marbled text block edges. The spine features five raised bands and intricate gilt tooling. It's in very good condition, but there is loss to the surface of the paper along the corners and board edges, as well as the spine ends and edges. There are some chips in the leather along the raised bands of the spine. There is also some loss to the paper at the board edges. The boards show light marking and there is a vertical scratch to the back board. The marbling to the text block edges are noticeably dulled and faded.
Inside, the endpapers are marbled to compliment the binding and there are two written inscriptions inside - one dated 1869 and the other 1950. The pages show light age toning and sporadic foxing. The book is filled with stunning colour plates.
Dimensions approximately 22.5cm x 15cm x 3.2cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in bubble wrap, patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
